We definitely want to try the smoked trout and go down the koniingsee after reading the report. Since you seem to be familiar with the drive from Berchtesgaden to Prague would you recommend it? Or should we take a bus/ train ride to Prague ? Thank you. We are going to Berchtesgaden at Easter for 3 nights, then to Garmish (2 nts)..my concern - is April too early, are the villages too quiet ie. shops closed; we are from Canada so we don't mind the cooler weather, but the trees look bare in some of your pictures. Can you give me the pros and cons - April vs May/June? Thank you.Viviannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-335408565106024505.post-40485890506186349512009-05-30T10:59:33.128+02:002009-05-30T10:59:33.128+02:00Hi Michael, Thanks for the tips! It's a place I go back to several times a year. You appear to like both hiking and food so can I recommend that next time you are in Berchtesgaden that you hike up to the restaurant on top of the Kneifelspitze. There's a sign pointing up to it beside the church at Maria Gern just outside Berchtesgaden. It's a 2-3 hour walk (from memory) but if the weather is clear the views are outstanding. The restaurant is only accessible on foot, cars etc. are not permitted. There is also a Berchtesgaden tourist book available from the tourist office and many shops which is excellent. Hope you go back and I'm sure you'll have a great time.
